IROC XVI - 1992
The International Race of Champions was an auto racing competition, featuring identically-prepared stock cars set up by a single team of mechanics, in an effort to make the race purely a test of driver ability. It was run with a small field of invited drivers (6-12) from all the major racing series including NASCAR, SCCA, FIA and USAC. Over the years CART and the IRL drivers, among others also participated.

IROC XVI - 1992
Intense competition was again evident and each of the four races had historical significance. Dale Earnhardt won the opener at Daytona, but Ricky Rudd and Harry Gant finished in a dead-heat for second place, an IROC first. At Talladega, Davey Allison won at a series record average speed of 191.722 MPH. (Allison later withdrew due to injuries and missed the last two events.) In Race 3, at Michigan, Geoff Brabham pulled the surprise of the season by becoming just the second road racer in IROC history to win on an oval and only the third non-American to make it to an IROC victory lane. In the finale, also at Michigan, Al Unser Jr. recorded a record sixth IROC win while Ricky Rudd passed Earnhardt with only six laps to go to claim the championship in his first IROC appearance. Rudd joined A. J. Foyt as the only IROC titlists to take the crown without a race win. (from IROC Website)
