Formula 1 Driving Champions

The Formula One World Drivers' Championship (WDC) is awarded by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) to the most successful Formula One racing car driver over a season, as determined by a points system based on Grand Prix results. Until 1990 The Drivers' Championship was first awarded in 1950, to Giuseppe Farina. Over the years FIA has modified the points system including until 1990 how many races the points were calculated over. In 2003 FIA revised the points system to distribute 39 points per race, instead of 25 - 26 points per race that were used for several decades prior to that. In 2010, FIA again revised the points system to award 101 points per race.

Formula 1 Manufacturer Champions

The Formula One World Constructors' Championship is awarded by the FIA to the most successful Formula One manufacturer over a season. This is determined by points awarded in each Grand Prix. Constructors' Championship points are calculated by adding points scored in each race by any driver for that constructor. Prior to 1979 points were awarded for the highest finish placing only. The Constructors' Championship was first awarded in 1958, to Vanwall.
