Central Canada Junior A Championship - Dudley Hewitt Cup
Central Canada Junior A Championship - Dudley Hewitt Cup
The Dudley Hewitt Cup is currenly the Central Canadian ice hockey championship for the Canadian Junior A Hockey League. The winner progresses onto the Royal Bank Cup championship. It was presented to the Champions of Ontario between the OHA and NOJHA, prior to 2002. With the withdrawal of the Provincial Junior A League from competition for the Royal Bank Cup in 2002 the winners of the NOJHA and the Superior International Junior Hockey League played for the cup. Currently the Cup is a round robin type tournament and a championship playdown between a predetermined host and a champion from each of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, and the Superior International Junior Hockey League. From the formation of the Junior A Tier II in 1971 the Dudely Hewitt Cup was presented to the Eastern Ontario Champion, which then progresed onto the Centennial Cup. It was not until 1979 that the Dudlry Hewitt Cup was presented to the Central Canada Champion. With the introduction of the Fred Page Cup and playoff realignment in 1995, the Dudley Cup now is awarded to the Ontario Champions.
