National Indoor Football League (NIFL)

In 2001, 18 franchises spanning the United States joined together to form the National Indoor Football League (NIFL). A mix of former teams from the now defunct Indoor Professional Football League (IPFL) and Indoor Football League (IFL) along with eight markets new to indoor football.

In 2005, nine teams left the league to form United Indoor Football (UIF). In July 2006, Osceola left to join 2 former AIFL franchises to form the World Indoor Football League (WIFL). After the 2006 season, more than half the league's franchises left for other indoor leagues. The NIFL lists five current teams, and nineteen expansion teams, scheduled to play in 2007.
